Alden

Kinda abstract, I know, but I love it. It's the sign hanging in front of a cleaners close to my house. I've been telling myself since I started the project that I should get a picture of it. Tonight I finally took the time to do so. ->

Tues

Say you: You've done an "OPEN" sign before.

Say me: Sue me. Besides, this one's different. ->

Corona

Say you: You were partaking of libations earlier, weren't you?

Say me: Was not! As it so happens, I was out saving the world earlier this evening.  So there.

Say you: But you wanted to partake of libations...

Say me: Not really.  Like a moth with no brain, I was merely drawn to the light.   ->

More blu

Another local favorite.  The Geek and I did dinner-and-a-show last night in OKC.  Really, though, it was OKC-show-and-then-go-to-dinner-in-Norman seeing as my job kicked my sleep schedule's booty this week and I had to have a nap before hitting the town, thus leaving no time for dinner prior.  Because I'm old.

Our first choice was here.  But they stop seating at 9:30--which is a serious problem on a Friday night with an event going on right across the street from them (you would think they would plan for an after-event crowd)--and we figured there was no way we were going to make it after the show. We were right.  blu serves a full menu until 11:30, so blu won our dollars.  But only by default.

Since Mom reads my blog on Saturdays and I know she's going to ask when she sees me later this weekend, I'll answer the inevitable question now:  I had black bean soup, a house salad, and a glass of Polka Dot Pinot Grigio.

Esk Fro

Classic 50's, as the sign says, has been in Norman since 1957 and is a local (and locally owned) institution.  Sonic tried to drive them out--I don't recall all the drama involved now--but Classic 50's held their ground.  So Sonic moved in right next door, one surmises in an attempt to bully them out of business.  Guess what?  Didn't work.  Sonic eventually moved across the street so they could add their drive-thru feature and Classic 50's remains.

So, you know, score 1 for the little guy.

Plus you can get pickle-Os there.
Say you:  translation please?
Say me:  Oh, total low cal snack. Battered and deep fried pickles served with ranch dressing.  Not my thing, but who am I to argue with a menu that's been around longer then me? ->

They're Open Right Now

Almost ten-thirty on the eve of Thanksgiving and the place is lit up light a Christmas Tree.  I'm working tonight...in fact when I took this picture I was on the road from one hospital to another.  A doctor I spoke with was working 72 hours this week including all-nighters on Wednesday and Thursday nights.  Several nurses and techs were stuck working too.

Other places I saw open in the late and then wee hours:

Wal Greens
Chick Fila
Burger King
Wal Mart
7-11

Some people don't get the holiday--or much of one, anyway. But does this really surprise you?  Hospitals obviously can't shut down.  But Wal Fart sure as hell can. And so can all those other places I listed.  ->

Granada

The other pic I had posted was just a filler.  I really liked this one, but wanted to toy with it before I posted here.  So, Saturday's pic, admittedly late but definitely taken on Saturday:  ->

ERB

Say you: Hold up!  You had a different picture up here before!

Say me:  Yes, I know.  The last one was fuzzy. And the lighting in there was poor.  And that silly camera phone irritates me more and more.

Say you: This one isn't much better...

Say me: I'm certain the vodka had no effect at all on 1) my picture-taking abilities or 2) my decision making when I initially posted first pic. Upon further reflection (read: sobering up), I realized this one was more in fitting with my consumerism theme, despite the poor quality.  ->
