iCan't...

....lie in my bed for my evening winding-down routine without my iPad.  His name is (i)Pat and we're really quite close.  Score one for Steve Jobs for making such mundane activities as listening to NPR  and playing Scrabble Words with Friends a required activity for bedtime routines.
Say you: You've absolutely railed on Jobs in the past.
Say me: It's a love/hate relationship.  I love my pad.  I hate Steve.
Say you: And might I point out that all of the pictures you upload are taken with your iPhone?
Say me: Oh, I love him too.  His name is Frank.  But I still hate Steve. And yes, while we're in full disclosure mode with my owning of Apple gadgets, my iPod had a name too:  iBob, if you must know.  I do not, however, own a Macbook.  They're awfully pretty, though....
I also can't stand to get a new Vanity Fair in the mail without reading it cover-to-cover in 24 hours.  And get this: I saw an add today in Vanity Fair that magazine readership has actually increased in the last five years, which is important.  Because (and I quote) "the immersive power of magazines...extends to advertising.  Magazines remain the number one medium for driving purchase consideration and intent."

See?  I'm doing my part.  ->

Talk about consumerism. Vanity Fair would win prizes for preponderance of advertising per issue. Plus Christopher Hitchens is dying, and though he's an insufferable egoist, supported the Iraq war, and made himself relatively obnoxious with his militant atheism, I have always cut him some slack. Maybe it's the accent.

Listen, Vanity Fair's got nothing on Vogue. As for HItchens, it's definitely the accent. Brits can get away with a ton of stuff because they say "trousers" and "loo".

So it's the lingo, not the accent then?

I'm a fan of "knackered" myself.

It's the lingo coupled with accent. "knackered" is a great one. So is "barking mad".
