That magical "Clearance!" sign is like a siren song for many people and I've been known to get sucked in a time or two (or more...)
However, those signs do give me pause these days. I can't recall where I read or heard it--it was back when I was devouring any personal finance advice I could, and that's been a few years ago--but I remember the gist of the message quite clearly: Just because you buy something on sale doesn't actually mean you "saved" money. If you had no intention of buying said item in the first place, and/or if you have no need for said item, you're stilling spending money.
