Birthday

~Squee~

OMG.

SO CUTE, right?

And wow!

SO practical.

I bet the odds are really low--practically non-existent in fact--that this glass won't break the very night Birthday Girl receives it.  And the odds are WAY low--statistically you have a better chance of getting hit by lightening or winning the lottery--that this glass will not make its way to the back of the cabinet only to be found again in 2034 covered with enough dust that one could plant a potato in it.

Because I don't know about you, but if I received a glass like this, you know I'm drinking my coffee out of it.  Like, every day. ->

Cuisinart

I was at a friend's (really big) house last night for dinner and realized I hadn't taken my picture for the day.  So I told her I needed a shot, told her about the blog and why I needed the pic.

She got excited.
Her: OH!  I'm your girl!  I am a consumer girl!  What are you going to take a picture of?
Me: I'm thinking the food processor.
Her: I hate that thing.*
Me: What?  Why?
Her: Because it doesn't shred cheese the way my grandmother's did back in the 70's.
She then went into a long explanation: lumps of cheese that get forsaken and left behind in the gizmo that have to go through it a second or perhaps a third time to actually get shredded.  Ergo, she's forced to use expletives, probably in front of one of her children.  Not pretty.

At this point, I tried to introduce the concept of an old fashioned hand cheese grater, but she cut me at the knees:
Her: Tanya.  I feed 8 people every night.  Have you ever grated cheese by hand for 8 people?
She's got me there.

It's all relative, isn't it?  She has the cadillac of food processors.  Mine is mini--I think it holds 3 cups?--and has no capacity to shred cheese.  It has one blade, one button and cost me $30 when I bought it.

I love it.  ->

*This comment, naturally, sealed the deal for me.

GE

The magic of Facebook.  I posted there that my Crock Pot*, age 17.5 years (it was a wedding gift) finally died.  OK, truth be told the LID died.  Because I accidentally melted it.  Which is a whole other entry.

Moving on.

I had grand plans of going out and buying another one today. A bigger one! One with digital readouts! And a locking lid!  And set the table! And do the dishes along with cooking my dinner! So I posted and asked for suggestions.  One friend responded that he had two and I could have one of them.

Score!

I get an almost new appliance, a blog entry, AND get to feel all virtuous because I didn't have to actually purchase said appliance.  I'm reusing!  I'm reducing!  Yay me!  And for the record, I had The Geek drill a hole in the bottom of the old crock and it will serve has a planter come spring time.  So I'm reusing not once but twice.

I simply love Mother Earth and it shows.
Say you: So why did this guy have two crock pots?
Say me: Apparently the one above didn't match his other appliances. ->
*I didn't realize until just yesterday that "Crock Pot" is actually a brand.  I thought they were all called crock pots.  Nope.  The other versions, as indicated in the pic, are named "slow cookers".  To my dying day, though, I will call them all "crock pots".  Just like all petroleum jelly is "Vaseline".
